I was privileged to attend Veterans Day ceremonies at Cheshire High School along with numerous other Veterans and their families.
Once again, The CHS student group BRAVE (Bringing Remembrance to All Veterans Everywhere) outdid themselves. I've been to past BRAVE ceremonies and functions but I believe this is the first one to involve every single person in the school. The entire student body and faculty/staff turned out in one way or another--if not directly taking part then to attend and show their support.
From being greeted outdoors by our football team, to meeting BRAVE members indoors, being escorted to an extensive food spread, enjoying a breakfast reception to a jazz combo, visiting and chatting with enthusiastic students, watching a video tribute, being escorted through a gauntlet of football players out to the main ceremony apron, listening to student speakers and being treated to music by the spectacular marching band and a couple of choral groups.
My first thought was that we were being treated like royalty but actually that was not the case. We were being treated with respect, admiration and recognition earned by serving our country. I would say that BRAVE did everything we could have asked of them but we didn't ask for anything. They came up with this all on their own. Everything they did for us came from their hearts and it showed.
Be proud of this group, Cheshire.
This was a truly impactful and magnificent presentation.
There is simply no way for anyone to know how meaningful BRAVE's Veterans Day ceremonies were without being a Veteran. Thank you, BRAVE students!
